Goals & Objectives of the Position
To provide the highest quality tutoring/teaching experience

To proactively prepare for lessons so that student questions are quickly resolved
To encourage referrals to other families by providing outstanding academic support
To turn in class reports and bi-monthly reports on time
4-year degree (or equivalent) as a minimum
Teaching certificate or Master’s degree preferred (but not required)
Ability to work with students of all abilities 6th to 12th grade, including ADD/ADHD
Daily access to internet connection and same-day responsiveness
Available at least 3x/week (Mon-Thurs are the most popular tutoring days)
Clean WSP background check
Essential Abilities & Behaviors:
Be proficient in all levels of the subject(s) you tutor (AP/IB experience a plus)
Communicate via PLA email
Motivated to become familiar with local district textbooks and curriculum
Positive, upbeat, and encouraging
Provide the best tutoring/teaching experience our clients have ever had
Persuade reluctant learners to find joy in the subject again!
Families typically request once or twice a week, between 3 and 8pm (Mon – Thurs, occasional weekend requests). We may have some day time hours available. You need to be available for at least 3 weekdays to fit our scheduling needs. PLA tutors work between 6 and 20 hours a week, depending on their availability and the number of students we have in their particular subject.
Job Duration: Training begins immediately upon hire. Position lasts until mid-June with opportunities for summer work on an as-needed basis. Successful tutors are always welcome to rejoin the team the following fall.
Issaquah and Sammamish homes, possibly Redmond/Bellevue and local libraries
Working in students’ homes (with an adult in the house), local library or other public place
About half our tutoring is done in homes. You need reliable transportation.
