PLA Offers Flexible Learning Option

High school student completes a geometry course via remote study.

Flexible learning can occur anywhere, anyhow, anyway. This PLA student accessed his education from two states and another country.

Pacific Learning Academy prides itself on meeting a student’s needs, whether it is working around busy schedules or meeting at a specific location. In this case, James Jones was contending with both issues! He needed to complete a second semester geometry course, act in “The Two Gentlemen of Verona” at The New Orleans Shakespeare Festival, and spend part of his summer overseas.

JamesJones-family (1)Working with his PLA instructor via Skype and downloading and re-uploading assignments via Google Docs, James built a portfolio showing both his performance and mastery of the Geometry material.

Cathryn, his mom, said “James wouldn’t have been able to do the Tulane Shakespeare Festival or travel to Amsterdam without PLA’s help. You saved me from killing him because if I had had to manage an online or distance course myself, I think it might have ended in a major tragedy!” All kidding aside, James completed his class in less than two months and is ready to move on to Advanced Algebra when he starts back at his high school in the Fall.

“Pacific Learning Academy is excited to offer the remote study option to students,” states Kirsten O’Malley, Executive Director of Pacific Learning Academy. “We enjoy making learning as convenient as possible to our students, and loved being a part of James’ productive summer! We were also happy to direct this course with 1-on-1 interaction via Skype, completely taking the onus off of his mom to oversee coursework, and allowing the family to truly enjoy the summer and each other!”
