Love teaching, but not necessarily managing a classroom?
Pacific Learning Academy is currently hiring a part-time Math and Science Tutor/Teacher to provide personalized, 1-on-1 instruction to middle and high school students in Sammamish and Issaquah.
All of our lessons are 1-on-1. Our instructors work with one student at a time, allowing them to build strong relationships, adapt lessons to the individual learner, and focus on teaching rather than classroom management. Academic magic happens when a student has your full attention!
Our greatest current needs are instructors who can teach math through AP Calculus and high school science, particularly physics and chemistry. Ability to teach biology is also helpful.
Candidates who can support more than one area of math and science are especially valuable. Broader subject expertise may provide access to additional instructional hours.
Pacific Learning Academy is a year-round, accredited private school and educational service supporting students in grades 6–12 through both 1-to-1 tutoring and accredited middle and high school credit courses.
Lessons may be held in student homes in the Sammamish/Issaquah area, at the Academy school office in Sammamish, at nearby libraries, or occasionally through Zoom.
School-year instructors must be able to commit through mid-June and maintain consistent days and times throughout the academic year. Summer work is optional.

- We currently anticipate approximately 15–20 instructional hours per week, with lessons scheduled during the daytime and into the late afternoon.
- Additional hours may occasionally be available based on subject expertise, student fit, availability, and student demand.
- Because our students work with instructors 1-on-1, instructors generally maintain the same weekly schedule with each student throughout the school year.
Because we are an accredited school, we serve daytime students throughout the school year, including students taking accredited credit courses, homeschool students, and Running Start students.
Academy instructors may work up to 25 hours per week, depending on their availability, skill set, and student demand in their subject areas. While hours are not guaranteed, instructors typically continue working with each assigned student for the remainder of the school year.
Job Duration:
Training begins immediately upon hire. School-year positions require a commitment through mid-June and consistent availability throughout the academic year. Successful instructors are welcome to continue through the summer and/or return the following fall. Summer work is optional.
Locations:
Most lessons are held in person at our Sammamish school office, in student homes in the Sammamish/Issaquah area, or at nearby libraries. A smaller number of families request live online instruction through Zoom. Candidates must be willing and able to provide face-to-face instruction; this is not a fully remote position.
Online/Zoom conditions:
- Some families request online instruction.
- Instructors must have a webcam, microphone, and comfort using (or learning) the Zoom platform.
- Instructors may conduct Zoom lessons from the location of their choice, including the Academy school office or their home.
- Zoom lessons will require the instructor to have an area free of visual distractions or extraneous noise.
- Zoom backgrounds should be professional/neat and appropriate for a learning environment. The Academy provides professional backgrounds to online instructors.
Necessary travel:
You will need reliable transportation to travel to lessons in the Sammamish/Issaquah area. The Academy compensates for drive time between eligible in-person lessons. We also serve students in other cities, counties, and states; those lessons are generally held online.
Physical Requirements:
Instructor positions may require entering and working in student homes, public places such as libraries, and the Academy school office. The positions typically require: standing, walking, climbing stairs, using computers/laptops, lifting up to 20 pounds (books, backpacks, laptops), fine-motor movements required for writing, typing, and demonstrating academic concepts, talking, hearing, seeing, and performing repetitive motions. The position may involve prolonged use of visual displays for online lessons, as well as exposure to odors, variable lighting, and other environmental conditions associated with teaching in client homes.

Professional development seminar (held 4x/year)
To Apply:
If you can support students in math through AP Calculus and/or high school science, particularly physics or chemistry, please apply now. Candidates with strength across multiple areas of math and science, or across other subjects, are especially encouraged to apply. We are hiring immediately and look forward to learning more about you!
