The Garage, a new teen café coming to Issaquah!

Pacific Learning Academy proudly supports “The Garage,” a new teen café coming to Issaquah.

Imagine a place, off the high school campus and down the road, created especially and only for our local teens.

From vision to creation, the driving force for this unique locale is Kaylee Jaech. Kaylee is the former Development Director at the Issaquah Schools Foundation (as well as an interim Executive Director for awhile!) and her enthusiasm and expertise has brought students, community members, and the City of Issaquah together for this unique teen café concept.

The mission of “The Garage”

is to to create a safe, drop-in space for high school teens where they can meet their friends and access programming and services as needed. It’s a place where the students develop and implement the programming and really get to “own” the space. Because Pacific Learning Academy loves student-centered projects (and of course we can’t say no to Kaylee!), Kirsten O’Malley, Founder and Executive Director of Pacific Learning Academy, recently presented the first of three yearly donations in support of the new teen café. We are so proud to be a part of the community support for The Garage, an idea that has been in the works for over two years!

The space for The Garage was generously provided by the City of Issaquah and renovations started in June (with an open date of September). Other partners and donors include the Kiwanis Club of Issaquah, the State of Washington Commerce Department, Rotary clubs and many local community members. You’ll notice that their Advisory Board is led by locals who deeply care about the lives and opportunities of our teens – many of whom have ties to the Issaquah Schools Foundation.

Pacific Learning Academy supports non-profit organizations that are aligned with our educational and philanthropic philosophy of giving parents more choices and opening up more doors to students. The Academy is owned by a teacher, Kirsten O’Malley, and is a wholly local educational service.

Please help The Garage raise $50,000 before the grand opening in September to ensure they will be fully staffed and ready to serve the kids. For more information or to donate, visit their website at issaquahteencafe.org.
