AFTER-SCHOOL HOMEWORK LABS GIVE EVERY MIDDLE AND HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT ACCESS TO HELP.

Did you know that every high school in the Issaquah district offers after-school homework help? With funding from the Issaquah Schools Foundation, students are able to work with teachers after school in core subjects and some foreign languages. After many years of supporting the Foundation, Pacific Learning Academy was proud to provide an additional grant directly to this after-school program as well as support the Foundation’s Nourish Every Mind luncheon.

Kirsten O’Malley, Founder and Executive Director of Pacific Learning Academy, recently presented the grant in support of the After-School Homework Lab program. Homework Labs are intrinsically connected to the work of the Academy, where Kirsten created the “kitchen table classroom” (an in-home private school) almost 15 years ago.

Over the past decade, the Academy has provided financial support via yearly donations and sponsorship of the Foundation’s All-in-for-Kids Campaigns. Kirsten maintains her personal advocacy with strong financial and volunteer support to the Foundation after years of direct volunteer service as a board trustee and VOICE [Volunteers of Issaquah Changing Education] mentor.

Students who need support now have the option of private pay tutors or fully-funded after-school programs like the After-School Homework Labs. We love being a part of this program and extending the ways area families can access great academic support no matter their financial status. Pacific Learning Academy wants to be there for it all!

  1. Karate after School Program says:

The most important advantage of a good after school program is that it widens your child’s area of interests. He or she is introduced to new things, sometimes interesting, sometimes challenging. Mastering a new art form or a new skill increases the child’s self-esteem. It also allows you to introduce your child to new career options. A child attending a music class may decide that she likes it so much that she wants to make a career out of it in the long run.

Agreed! Most students think of after-school as that art/sport/skill experience, but for those that are struggling academically, Pacific Learning Academy sponsors the free after-school homework labs via the Issaquah Schools Foundation. It’s a way to keep on track and, for some students, stay eligible to play sports or participate in another outside interest that requires good grades. 🙂
